This is a superb quality well matched set of 6 “full age” antique elm country farmhouse spindle-back rush seated kitchen chairs, circa 1780 – 1840. The set consists of 6 side chairs. These chairs boast refined turned spindle to the backs. To the centre of the crest rail shows a central shell motif. The seats are woven with rush material. The base of the chairs feature lovely turned legs and bulbous shaped stretchers to the front. There are stretchers all round for strength (twin stretchers on the sides). The front stretcher is heavy and turned – a good sign of quality. All chairs are made from top quality solid elm. The term “full age” refers to the meaning that these chairs are full in age and are not later copies of the original spindle back chairs. These chairs have originated from the Lancashire and Cheshire region of North west of England but were also known as a “Liverpool” chair. They were made for use in kitchens in simple country homes around this area during the time of the great mills in the Industrial Revolution.
This item would compliment any home, especially the kitchen or dining room, so don’t miss out your chance to own a lovely piece of furniture.

These chairs are in very good condition. The rush seating is excellent condition although there is some colour variation, which means that rush, has been replaced at different times throughout the chairs’ life. There are old woodworm holes to the legs. The chairs have been thoroughly treated with woodworm killer and the legs are completely stable (please note, some wood-worm is common in fruitwood). There is an excellent colour / patination and variation to the timber. As this is a well-matched set, there are small variations in the dimensions of some of the chairs. There are no scratches or damage to any of the chairs. All chairs are free of active woodworm, solid in joint (not lose or wobbly) and ready to use.
