Description:
This is a fine quality antique English George III cherry wood side table, circa 1780, in excellent original condition. It is rare to see period tables constructed in cherry wood; they are usually oak or mahogany. The table boasts a twin-plank top, above a single flush working drawer. The drawer retains the original brass swan neck handles & escutcheon and is decorated with simple scribe moulding. The pine-lined drawer is constructed with primitive hand dovetail joints. The drawer runs smoothly and closes flush to the frame. Below the drawer, the table features a straight apron. The table is raised on four straight, tapering block legs. The table features the original top and backboard to the rear; the frame has been constructed in the traditional joined manner for that period. The item is solid in joint and ready to use.
This item features a lovely mellow walnut colour. As it boasts the original polish, it has a fantastic colour and patination; this can only be achieved through age and years of care and cleaning it has received.
This Georgian cherry wood side table would look superb in a variety of rooms from the living room to the hallway, or useful as a writing table. The table would certainly grace any home or office and is a great investment, as it is extremely functional. So don’t miss out on your chance to own a lovely piece of furniture.
