Description:
Here is a fine antique English 18th century George II solid oak provincial chest of drawers on stand, circa 1770, in excellent condition. The chest is constructed with a two-plank cross banded moulded oak top, which is echoed in the base and features solid oak sides. Comprising of a two-over-three graduated drawer design, the drawers feature moulded fronts, with old replacement brass swan neck handles and shaped escutcheons. The drawers also include old replacement lever locks (with working key). The chest is constructed of solid oak, with oak lined interiors; it also retains its original oak backboards. The drawers are in good working order; they are clean inside and close flush to the frame. The chest is raised on what we believe to be a later stand (probably made during the Victorian period), which is constructed with ring turned bulbous supports, united by wavy stretchers, forming a sturdy frame. The stand rests on pad feet. The chest is of extremely good quality and is made from solid oak; thus, it is heavy to lift! The chest on stand dismantles into two sections (see photos), allowing for easy transportation and access into the home.
The chest features a rich deep oxblood oak colour, with a wonderful grain configuration to the front and sides. As it boasts the original polish, it has a fantastic colour and patination; this can only be achieved through age and years of care and cleaning it has received.
This chest of drawers would look superb in a variety of rooms, especially the bedroom. This chest of drawers would certainly grace any home. So, don’t miss out on your chance to own a lovely piece of furniture.
