Description:
Here is a fine quality antique Georgian oak four drawer dresser base sideboard, circa 1780, in excellent condition. The dresser measures 6ft 2” wide and boasts its original rich brown oak colour and patination. What makes this dresser is special is the number of drawers; dressers of this period were usually made with three drawers, so the fact that this dresser has four, makes desirable the three drawer dresser bases. The dresser features a three-plank moulded oak top, above a bank of four large cross banded drawers. The drawer fronts boast the original brass drawer escutcheons & handles, which is nice to see. The drawers feature later brass lever working locks, with a working key. The drawers are constructed with hand dovetail joints, with linings and bottoms that are made from a mixture of oak and pine (see photos), owing either to old repairs or varying availability of materials at the time of construction. Below, the dresser base boasts a shaped apron, with a central drop finial, and is raised on cabriole legs to the front and block legs to the rear. The backboard features a single plank board; the frame as a whole is built using with the traditional peg construction method.
The dresser features a superb rich brown oak colour. As it boasts the original polish, it has a fantastic colour and patination; this can only be achieved through age and years of care and cleaning it has received (it cannot be recreated by re-polishing).
The dresser would look superb in any hallway, kitchen or dining room. This item would certainly grace any home and is a great investment as it is extremely functional. So, don’t miss out on your chance to own a lovely piece of furniture.
