Description:
This is a fine quality antique English early 18th century solid oak sloped writing box, boasting lovely colour and patination, with original carvings and hinges, circa 1700, in good condition. The box features a two-plank top, with a flat surface to the rear, attached to a sloped moulded hinged top to the front, which serves as a writing surface. The writing surface is secured with what we believe to be the original butterfly iron strap hinges. The box incorporates the original iron plate and locking clasp, with a later restored working lock and key, with the original front plate. The front of the box is profusely carved with fine quality original foliate carvings. Inside, the interior comprises three small hand dovetailed drawers, which retain their original turned wooden knobs, above a general storage space, which is clean, dry, practical and usable. The interior also retains its original floorboards and backboards. The box sits on a moulded plinth base. The back of the box retains its original panels along with the original floor. Overall, this trunk boasts a lovely rich original colour and patination.
This item would look great in a variety of rooms from the hallway, to the office or bedroom, for storing valuable small items, jewellery or documents etc.
As it boasts the original polish, it has a fantastic colour and patination; this can only be achieved through age and years of care and cleaning it has received.
