Description:
This is a fine quality antique English Art Deco bow front figured walnut cocktail bar drinks cabinet, circa 1940, by F.H, Marshall, in excellent original condition. The cabinet comprises a lovely figured walnut moulded top, below which is a fold-open compartment. The compartment features a compartmentalised interior, with ideal provision for glasses and other accoutrements and the fold-open section serves as a table for mixing drinks. Attached to the roof of the compartment is a sprung-loaded handle. When pulled, the handle activates a sprung-loaded mechanism, which raises a mirror-lined compartment from inside the top of the cabinet. The mirror lined compartment includes storage for either two bottles, or a bottle and a cocktail shaker, as well as two racks for hanging a total of eight wine or cocktail glasses. The compartment can be stowed away by simply pressing down on it and pushing it back into the top, until it clicks. Below the fold-open compartment is a single drawer, which boasts quarter beading (a sign of quality), as well as dovetailed construction and mahogany lining. Further below is a bow front two-door compartment. The fold-out compartment and the doors to the bottom compartment all close on sprung-loaded latches, while both doors, drawer and fold-out compartment all retain the original brass knobs. The cabinet rests on a splayed, moulded plinth.
The cabinet boasts a classic golden figured walnut colour. As it boasts the original polish, it has a fantastic colour and patination; this can only be achieved through age and years of care and cleaning it has received.
This item would look superb in a variety of rooms from the hallway to the living room or dining room. This item would certainly grace any home and is a great investment, as it is extremely functional. So, don’t miss out on your chance to own a lovely piece of furniture.
