Description:
This is an unusual and pretty antique English Charles II style oak drop-leaf occasional side table, constructed during the Victorian period from earlier 18th century timbers, circa 1850, in excellent condition. It was common for country furniture to be constructed from earlier 18th century timbers during the time; with cabinetmakers using whatever was to hand or available locally. You could say it was the first form of environmental recycling! The table features a simple, straight-edged oval top with two drop leaves which, when folded out, combine to create a circular top. The drop leaves each rest on two pull-out supports, which also retain their original round brass knobs. The table can be used with either one or two drop leaves; therefore, it is a versatile piece, perfectly suited either against a wall or in the centre of a room. It is also small enough to be stored away when not in use. Below the top, the frame boasts a shaped reeded frieze, which is raised on four bulbous, ring turned legs, united by four stretchers for supporting strength. The table has been constructed using the traditional pegged construction.
The table boasts a superb mid to dark brown oak colour and it is in excellent original condition. It has a fantastic colour and patination this can only be achieved through age and years of care and cleaning it has received.
This item would look superb in a variety of rooms from the dining room, living room or the hallway. The table would certainly grace any home or office and is a great investment, as it is extremely functional. So, don’t miss out on your chance to own a lovely piece of furniture.
