Description:
This is a fine quality antique English Edwardian rosewood and boxwood marquetry inlaid music display cabinet, circa 1910, in excellent original condition. Designed with a raised up-stand, which features three small bevel mirrored panels, interspersed between detailed boxwood marquetry work walls. The up-stand incorporates two turned columns, decorated with turned finials, which support a small upper shelf, which above is a shaped pediment. Below, there is further marquetry inlay to the top of the cabinet and a single door, which features a part-glazed panel, decorated with further string inlay and a central marquetry work, depicting a fanfare of musical instruments. The cabinet features four internal shelves and is designed for storing sheet music and books horizontally. The cabinet door retains the original brass working lever lock (with key) and original brass drop handle. The music cabinet is raised on tapering legs, decorated with boxwood straining and terminates on its original brass and porcelain mug castors, whilst featuring the original backboards.
Although it is designed as a music sheet cabinet, it also makes a very pretty and practical display or storage cabinet for small china, magazines or newspapers. This is an extremely useful piece of furniture and a great asset to have in any living or music room, or even hallway as it consumes very little space.
