Description:
This is a fine quality antique English Georgian solid mahogany chest on chest, boasting a lovely colour, circa 1790, in excellent condition. The design of this chest is influenced by the Chippendale period, which was popular between the years of 1750 – 1790. The chest on chest boasts classic Chippendale detailing, from the cavetto dentil cornice to the canted corners. The chest boasts a protruding moulded dentil cornice, with flame mahogany cross-banding and satinwood string inlay, with canted corners, above a graduated eight-drawer configuration. The chest consists of two halves with a moulded waist to the base section. The top section is smaller than the bottom section, with a proportionately balanced waist. The top section comprises five drawers in a two-over-three arrangement. The base section holds a further three drawers. The drawers are pine lined, constructed with hand dovetail joints and finished with cock beaded fronts. They also retain their original working locks, with working key, and feature old replacement brass swan neck handles & f key escutcheons. The interior of the drawers still retains the original blue rice paper lining, which was fashionable to the use at the time (if you prefer us to remove the rice paper, this can be done). The bottom section terminates on a simple moulded apron, terminating on its original bracket feet. The chest retains its original backboards. The item is a three-piece chest; it dismantles into three sections for easy transport and access into the house. This is an ideal item for the bedroom or landing as it provides significant storage space for clothes.
The chest boasts a stunning rich brown mahogany colour. It has a fantastic colour and patination; this can only be achieved through age and years of care and cleaning it has received.
This Georgian chest on chest would look superb in a variety of rooms from the hallway, to the living room or bedroom and is very useful as there are so many storage drawers. This item would certainly grace any home. So, don’t miss out on your chance to own a lovely piece of furniture.

Condition Report:
This Georgian mahogany chest on chest is in excellent condition. Nominal old use marks to the leading edges, frame, sides and drawer bottoms, but nothing significant considering the age of the item. The chest on chest has been traditionally French polished by hand in our workshop, to a professional standard, therefore, the finish, colour and patination is excellent. The pine lined drawers are constructed with quality hand dovetail joints, around a cock-beaded drawer frame. The inside of the drawers retains the original blue rice paper lining, which is nice to see. However, the linings do show signs of use, including marks (see photos), but is in good overall condition. If you prefer us to remove the blue rice paper for hygienic reasons, this can be done – please let us know. The drawer fronts are decorated with old replacement brass swan neck handles and fretwork backplates. The drawers close flush to the frame and retain their original working locks (with key). The top drawer of the base section contains a faux lock (this drawer cannot be locked). The chest stands on its original bracket feet and incorporates the original backboards. The chest is well constructed, solid in joint, does not wobble and is ready to be used.
