Description:
Here is a fine quality antique English Georgian Chippendale Style chest on chest, of unusual design, with a small linen cupboard section, constructed from solid mahogany, in the Edwardian period, circa 1910, in excellent original condition. The chest is decorated with profuse geometric blind fretwork carvings beneath the cornice, including the door panels, drawer fronts and front corners of the top section. The top section supports a drop down (detachable) protruding moulded cornice, above two panelled mahogany doors. The left door retains its original brass locking latches, while the right door retains its original brass strip (a sign of quality) and working lever lock (with working key). The two doors open up to reveal an open useful storage area (ideal for storing bedding). Below, is a bank of six graduated drawers, with two drawers to the lower half of the top section and four more drawers to the base section, in a two-over-two configurations. The drawers are constructed with fine hand dovetail joints; the drawer linings and bottoms are constructed from solid oak. The drawer fronts feature the original brass swan neck handles, as well as working locks, with a working key.
The linen press is raised on its original moulded feet (which is rare to see, as these are usually replaced with changing fashions or get damaged over time). The linen press also features the original backboards. The linen press dismantles into three sections (cornice, top and base) allowing easy access up the staircase into the bedroom.
This is a sought-after mahogany chest on chest due to its decorative Chippendale blind fretwork carvings and its useful small cupboard. The linen press is designed in the classic Chippendale style, with profuse Geometric Chinese blind fretwork carvings.
As it boasts the original polish, it has a fantastic colour and patination; this can only be achieved through age and years of care and cleaning it has received.
This Georgian mahogany linen press is an excellent investment but also very practical for storage and would look superb in a variety of rooms, especially the bedroom. This item would certainly grace any home. So, don’t miss out your chance to own a lovely piece of furniture.
