Description:
Here is a fine quality antique English Georgia mahogany provincial lowboy side table, circa 1800, displaying a lovely mellow colour, in good condition. The table incorporates a twin-plank moulded top above three drawers, comprising a wide central drawer flanked by two narrow drawers. The two narrow drawers feature old replacement circular brass drop handles and escutcheons, while the central drawer displays an old period replacement handle and eagle shaped escutcheon. The brassware was probably changed during the Regency period (1820 – 1830) as the style reflects this period. The mahogany lined drawers are constructed with hand dovetail joints and the drawer fronts are decorated with scribe moulding. The drawers run smoothly and close flush to the frame. The table stands on four chamfered and scribe moulded legs. The table fearers the original top and backboard to the rear; the frame has been constructed in the traditional peg and joined construction method.
This item features a lovely mellow mahogany colour. As it boasts the original polish, it has a fantastic colour and patination; this can only be achieved through age and years of care and cleaning it has received.
This item would look superb in a variety of rooms from the living room to the hallway. The table would certainly grace any home or office and is a great investment, as it is extremely functional. So don’t miss out on your chance to own a lovely piece of furniture.
