Description:
This is a fine quality English Georgian solid oak two-drawer side table, with fantastic colour, circa 1780, in good condition. The side table comprises of a two oak plank top with two pine lined and hand dovetailed drawers below. The drawers feature scribe drawer fronts, brass swan neck handles and brass oval escutcheons. A non-functioning lever lock is present on the left-hand drawer. An elegant shaped frieze is visible on either side of the table, with a straight frieze to the front and terminated on four tapering legs. The table boasts a superb mellow colour and is in good condition overall, with fantastic oak medullary rays are most prominent on the top of the table but also the front. As it is slightly larger than most side tables, it could also be used as a serving base / table in a dining room.
This item features a mellow period oak colour. As it boasts the original polish, it has a fantastic colour and patination; this can only be achieved through age and years of care and cleaning it has received.
This item would look superb in a variety of rooms from the dining room, office or the hallway. The table would certainly grace any home or office and is a great investment, as it is extremely functional. So don’t miss out on your chance to own a lovely piece of furniture.
Condition Report:
This table is in good original condition. Nominal old use marks to the top, leading edges and inside drawer, but nothing significant considering the age of the item (see photos). The drawers are in good working order and close flush to the frame. The left drawer incorporates a later (possibly Victorian) steel lever lock, which has then been blanked off some time later; there is no keyhole. As it boasts the original polish, it has a fantastic colour and patination. This table is well constructed, solid in joint and is ready to use.
