Description:
This is a fine quality antique English Georgian Regency figured mahogany bow front chest of drawers, with generous proportions, circa 1820, in excellent condition. Designed with an elegant bow front shape, the top is constructed with a single piece mahogany top, decorated with mahogany cross-banding and ebonised string inlay. Below is a bank of two small drawers over three wider graduated drawers. The drawers are oak lined and hand dovetailed, with quarter beaded interiors (a sign of quality) and cock beaded fronts. The drawers feature old replacement solid brass oval plate handles. The drawer fronts retain the original brass key escutcheons and their original working locks, with working key. The drawers run smoothly and close flush to the frame. The chest stands on well-shaped mahogany ring turned feet. Later backboards to the chest.
The chest has been cleaned and traditionally French polished by hand to a professional standard in our workshop, therefore the finish, patination and colour of an excellent standard. The chest stands firm on the ground, is solid in joint and ready to use.
The chest features a lovely rich mahogany colour. It has a fantastic colour and patination; this can only be achieved through age and years of care and cleaning it has received.
This chest would look superb in a variety of rooms, from the hallway to the bedroom. This chest would certainly grace any home and is a great investment as it is extremely functional. So, don’t miss out on your chance to own a lovely piece of furniture.
