Description:
This is a stunning quality antique English Regency figured mahogany rectangular tilt top breakfast / dining table, which can comfortably seat 4-6 people, circa 1820, in excellent original condition. The table boasts a rectangular bevel moulded two-piece figured mahogany top. The table retains the original brass locking latch, which allows the tabletop to be tilted vertically for storage and to show off the lovely grain configuration on the top, or removed for easy transportation. The table retains its original solid brass thumbscrews either side of the hinges, which secure the table top to the pedestal. Removing these brass screws detaches the table-top from the pedestal base. The table is raised on a central ring turned pedestal column, which terminates on four splayed reeded legs. The legs rest on the original solid brass decorative castor toes & castors.
The table can accommodate between 4 – 6 persons and is sufficiently tall enough to comfortably fit your knees underneath. It is also sufficiently wide enough to accommodate serving dishes in the centre of the table. We have photographed the table with 8 chairs, to show the absolute maximum number of chairs that can be seated around the table but it would be more comfortable to seat between 4 – 6 people.
The table boasts a rich mahogany colour. The table has been cleaned and French polished, by hand, to a professional standard in our workshop, therefore the colour and patination is of an excellent standard, which is also testament to the years of care and cleaning it has received.
This tilt top table would look superb in a variety of rooms from dining room, drawing room or library. The table would certainly grace any home or office and is a great investment, as it is extremely functional. So, don’t miss out on your chance to own a lovely piece of furniture.
