Description:
This a fine quality antique English Regency carved mahogany bow front chest of drawers, circa 1820, in excellent condition. Comprising a mahogany bow front frame, with a simple top, above a bank of four graduated drawers. The drawers are profusely carved, featuring harebell garlands, tied with ribbon bows, with a central urn, as well as geometric Gregorian key scribe moulding and cock-beading to the perimeter. The drawers are decorated with old replacement brass ring handles on conspicuous lion’s head escutcheons. The drawers are lined in solid elm and constructed with hand-dovetailed joints. The drawer interior has been painted in a deep blue colour (Juniper Ash, by The Little Greene Paint Company). The drawers retain the original working brass lever locks, with working key. The chest is raised on a reeded plinth, supported by its original scribe ebonised moulded bracket feet.
The design and carvings seen on this chest are taken from the classical beauty and finesse of Egyptian, Roman and Greek classical architecture. This can be seen in the form of refined carving and clean lines.
The chest displays a rich dark red-brown mahogany colour. The chest has been cleaned and French polished by hand in our workshop to a professional standard. It has also benefitted from the years of care and cleaning it has received.
This item would look superb in a variety of rooms, from the landing to the bedroom. This campaign chest would certainly grace any home. So don’t miss out your chance to own a lovely piece of furniture.
