Description:
This is a superb quality antique English Queen Anne style carved burr walnut nest of three coffee tables, with a serpentine design and removable glass tops, circa 1920 – 1930, in excellent original condition. The two smaller coffee tables are designed to be safely stored underneath the larger coffee tables, to reduced floor space when not in use. The tops consist of stunning burr walnut veneers, with walnut cross-banding, on a solid walnut frame and legs. The polish to the tabletops is protected by a useful glass inserts, which are secured in place by a conspicuous wooden gallery. The tabletops incorporate decorative floral carved moulded edges, with a serpentine form, above a shaped frieze on all sides. The table is supported by four elegant cabriole legs, with acanthus leaf carved detail on the knees, terminating on well-defined claw and ball feet.
The tables boast a rich brown walnut colour. It has a fantastic colour and patination; this can only be achieved through age and years of care and cleaning it has received.
These glass top coffee tables would look superb in a variety of rooms, specifically the living room. This item would certainly grace any home and is a great investment, as it’s an extremely functional item.
Condition Report:
This is a superb quality antique English Queen Anne style carved burr walnut nest of three coffee tables, with a serpentine design and removable glass tops, circa 1920 – 1930, in excellent original condition. Nominal old use marks to the leading wooden edges and glass surfaces but nothing significant considering the age of the item. The walnut tables have been cleaned and French polished, by hand, to a professional standard in our workshop, therefore the colour and patination is of an excellent standard. There are no stains or watermarks to the walnut tops. There are no missing veneers to the top; the legs are solid, with no breaks. The tables are constructed of a solid walnut frame with a burr walnut veneer top. The floral carving to the moulding is intact. This item is solid in joint, does not wobble and is ready for use.
