Description:
This is an attractive set of eight antique English Georgian / Chippendale style upholstered mahogany dining chairs, constructed during the George V period, circa 1930, in excellent condition. The set comprises six side chairs and two armchairs. The chair frames have been glued and then traditionally French polished by hand to a professional standard in our workshop, therefore the condition, colour and patination are of an excellent standard. The chairs are constructed of solid mahogany and feature a serpentine top rail, above a finely executed pierced fretwork central splat, flanked by vertical rails. Incorporating a drop-in seat design, the seat frames are finely moulded. The seats have been newly recovered in a good quality fawn colour structured cotton material, with traditional new hessian material to the underside. The seats are therefore in good clean condition. The chairs rest on moulded block legs to the front, with sabre legs to the rear, united by a strong “H” stretcher design. The armchairs reflect the design of the side chairs, with the addition of shaped arms on shaped supports.
The chairs feature a rich warm brown mahogany colour. They have a lovely colour and patination; this can only be achieved through age and years of care and cleaning it has received. The chairs would look superb in the dining room or kitchen. They would certainly grace any home and are a great investment as they are extremely functional.
Condition Report:
This is an attractive set of eight antique English Georgian / Chippendale style upholstered mahogany dining chairs, constructed during the George V period, circa 1930, in excellent condition. The chair frames have been glued and the traditionally French polished by hand to a professional standard in our workshop, therefore the condition, patination and colour of an excellent standard. Nominal old use marks to the leading edges, frames and legs, but nothing significant considering the age of them. The seats have been newly recovered in a good quality fawn colour structured cotton material, with traditional new hessian material to the underside. The seats are therefore in good clean condition. If you do not like the colour/style of the upholstery, we can re-cover the seats in a fabric of your choice. If you would like the seats re-covered, please contact us for a quote. This is a true set from the day of their construction (they have not been matched together from smaller sets of similar chairs). The upholstered dining chairs are solid in joint; they do not wobble and they are ready to use.
