Description:
Here is a fine quality antique English Victorian solid beech revolving office desk armchair, circa 1890 – 1900, which has been newly upholstered, and is in excellent condition. The armchair features a comfortable curved bar back, connected to wrap around arms, supported by an elegant vertical fan back. The chair seat has been newly upholstered, to a professional standard, in top quality full grain a green avocado colour leather, which has been finished with hand-tacked brass studs to the perimeter. The chair has also been cleaned and French polished, by hand, to a professional standard, therefore the colour and patination is of an excellent standard. The chair sits on four splayed solid beech legs that terminate on top quality brass castors. The chair incorporates a revolving cast iron mechanism and it rotates 360 degrees. The seat does not recline and it is not height adjustable – many Victorian and early Edwardian office chairs were constructed this way. The chair mechanism has been cleaned, restored and serviced and is in excellent working order. The chair frame is sturdy and the item is extremely comfortable to sit on, as it features a lovely padded seat.
The armchair features a rich colour. It has a lovely colour and patination; this can only be achieved through age and years of care and cleaning it has received.
This Victorian desk chair would look superb in a variety of rooms in the home, especially the office or study as it is so comfortable. This item would certainly grace any home. So, don’t miss out on your chance to own a lovely piece of furniture.
Condition Report:
This Victorian solid beech and leather desk armchair and mechanism are in excellent condition, considering its age. Nominal old use marks to the leading edges of the chair frame but nothing significant considering the age of the item. The chair seat has been newly upholstered, to a professional standard, in top quality full grain sage green leather, which incorporates the traditional brass studwork tacks to the seat perimeter. Therefore, the leather is in excellent condition, with no wear, fading or damage. The cast iron revolving mechanism is in good working order, having just been cleaned, restored and serviced. There is some play to the mechanism but this is perfectly acceptable, and in line with the age of the chair. The chair boasts a lovely mellow beech colour, having been cleaned and professionally French polished, by hand, in our workshops. The chair features good quality brass castors, which are also in good condition. This item is solid in joint and ready to use.
