Description:
This is a fine quality antique English Victorian double-ended mahogany upholstered couch, circa 1860, in good original overall condition. At this time, England was importing the best quality timber from its colonies. The couch features a fine crisp carved mahogany frame, which features a lovely down swept buttoned back, secured by shaped arms. The frame boasts attractive foliate carvings to the back, arms and legs, as well as a central oval shaped carving to the front of the seat. The sprung seat is firm enough that it does not sag, while still being very comfortable to sit on. The couch rests on cabriole legs, which are raised on the original brass & mug castors. The settee has been upholstered some time ago in a pink draylon material, with white braiding. The underside is covered in brown cotton fabric. The upholstery is in generally good condition, with only nominal signs of wear as well as some fading and marks. The couch could make a great re-upholstery project for someone who wanted to apply their own skills to revive and revitalize the piece; however, it is also perfectly functional in its current state. The item is well constructed and structurally very sound.
The couch exhibits a lovely mellow colour. As it boasts the original polish, it has a fantastic colour and patination; this can only be achieved through age and years of care and cleaning it has received.
This antique upholstered couch would compliment any home, particularly the living room or bedroom. So, don’t miss out on your chance to own a lovely piece of furniture.

Condition Report:
The couch is in good condition, commensurate with its age. The upholstery is in generally good condition, with only nominal signs of wear as well as some fading and marks. The couch could make a great re-upholstery project for someone who wanted to apply their own skills to revive and revitalize the piece; however, it is also perfectly functional in its current state. There is also some cosmetic damage to the mahogany frame, next to the front-right leg (see photos). Otherwise, the couch is well-built and structurally very sound. The sprung seat is firm enough that you do not sink into it, without it being too stiff (there are no broken springs). The item retains the original legs, resting on the original brass & mug castors.
