Description:
This is a stunning pair of exhibition quality antique English Victorian flame mahogany bedside chests, circa 1850, in excellent condition. Each bedside chest boasts elegant moulded round cornered mahogany tops; this style is reflected in the design of the plinths. They are pedestals from a Victorian dressing table, which have been adapted into bedside chests some time ago. The bedsides each have four graduated working drawers, with oak drawer linings, hand-dovetailed joints and quarter beading (a sign of quality). The drawer fronts are recessed and moulded, boasting stunning quality flame mahogany veneers, on a solid mahogany frame, and the original turned mahogany knobs. Either side of the bedsides are stunning quarter columns, featuring graduated capitals at the top and base of the columns. The bedsides stand on the original top quality moulded rounded mahogany plinths. Both chests are constructed of top quality solid mahogany timber imported from the colonies. The quality is reflected in the weight of these bedsides; they are heavy to lift!
The bedsides feature a dark rich, red-brown mahogany colour. They have a fantastic colour and patination; this can only be achieved through age and years of care and cleaning it has received.
These chests would look superb in a variety of rooms from the living room to the bedroom. They would certainly grace any home and are a great investment as they are extremely functional. So don’t miss out on your chance to own a lovely piece of furniture.
