Description:
This is an attractive and good quality antique Victorian mahogany upholstered prie dieu (prayer) chair, circa 1840, which is being sold for re-upholstery. Comprising of a high “T” bar back, with a sprung seat, upholstered in a peach-coloured silk material, which shows signs of fading, therefore, it would make an ideal upholstery project. The chair stands on mahogany turned legs at the front, terminating on its original brass castor cups and splayed legs to the rear, also with the original brass castors. Such chairs were historically used in high catholic families. Today, the high back design of these chairs makes them ideal for use as an occasional chair in the bedroom or nursery, as they are extremely comfortable to sit on, or hang clothes from.

Condition Report:
This is an attractive and good quality antique Victorian mahogany upholstered prie dieu (prayer) chair, circa 1840, which is being sold for re-upholstery. Whilst the peach-coloured silk upholstery is in good overall condition, there are signs of fading and old use marks, therefore it is being sold for re-upholstery and it would make an ideal upholstery project. Nominal old use marks to the leading edges of the frame but nothing significant considering its age. The mahogany legs have been French polished by hand to a professional standard in our workshop. There is some play to frame, which would require tightening, if the chair were to be re-upholstered (this should be done once the upholstery has been stripped off, prior to the chair being re-upholstered).
