This is a fine quality antique William IV burr walnut ottoman, newly upholstered in floral silk embroidery, circa 1835, in good condition. Benefitting from a pronounced concave design, it has been newly upholstered in top quality luxurious fawn colour embroidered floral silk upholstery, finished with matching braiding. The seat is hinged and can be opened to reveal a spacious interior, which has been lined with brown fabric. The original brass hinges to the lid are strong and in good condition, which means the lid can be supported, whilst open, without the need of a strap or stay. The interior and underside of the seat are lined in golden silk material. The ottoman boasts a matching moulded top and frieze, it stands on elegant fluted bun feet and brass castors.
This ottoman would be useful for storing magazines; music or clothes and it would look great in a variety of rooms from the living room or bedroom in front of the bed. It has a beautiful mellow mahogany patina frame, which has been generated by the years of cleaning and care it has received.
This ottoman frame boasts a mellow brown mahogany colour. As it boasts the original polish, it has a fantastic colour and patination; this can only be achieved through age and years of care and cleaning it has received.
Condition Report:
The ottoman is in very good condition having been newly upholstered. Therefore, the upholstery is new and free from damage, rips, and marks or fading. Nominal old use marks to the leading edges of the burr walnut frame but nothing significant considering the age of the item. The frame is solid and in sound condition with no loose movements. The original brass hinges to the lid are strong and in good condition, which means the lid can be supported, whilst open, without the need of a strap or stay. The ottoman sits firm on the ground and does not wobble. As it boasts the original polish, it has a fantastic rich brown colour and patination; this can only be achieved through age and years of care and cleaning it has received. This item is well constructed, solid in joint and ready to use.
