Description:
This is a stunning quality antique English William IV figured solid mahogany round dining table, circa 1830, in excellent original condition. The table boasts a superb figured mahogany hinged circular top. The table retains its original working brassware, which consists of a sprung locking mechanism, operating a double latch on the underside of the table. This allows the top to be lifted vertically, for storage purposes. The table features a round tapering support pedestal, which terminates on a circular pedestal, decorated with a ring of egg-and-dart carving, punctuated by acanthus leaf carvings. The table rests on scroll & lion’s paw carved feet. This table is well-constructed, solid in joint and ready to use. Ideal for use as a dining table or a decorative table in a large foyer.
This style of table was called a “loo” table because wealthy ladies in grand houses during the Victorian period, played the card game ‘loo’ sitting around the table whilst taking afternoon tea, hence the name ‘loo table’.
The table can accommodate between up to six persons and is sufficiently tall enough to comfortably fit your legs underneath. It is also wide enough to accommodate serving dishes in the centre of the table.
The table boasts a rich brown mahogany colour. It has a fantastic colour and patination; this can only be achieved through age and years of care and cleaning it has received.
This round table would look superb in a variety of rooms, from the dining room to the drawing room, library or in a large hallway entrance. The table would certainly grace any home or office and is a great investment, as it is extremely functional. So, don’t miss out on your chance to own a lovely piece of furniture.
