Description:
This is a superb quality antique English late William IV mahogany double scroll end couch, circa 1835, which has been newly re-upholstered and is in very good condition. At this time, England was importing the best quality mahogany from its colonies. The frame and turned legs are constructed of solid mahogany terminating on its original brass socket mug castors. The frame boasts attractive up-swept scroll end arms, which are decorated with gadroon and scroll carvings. The straight moulded scroll back rail is flanked by further scroll shaped carvings at each end of the sofa. Below the seat, sits a moulded frieze decorated with floral carved cartouches above tulip turned legs, which terminate on original bass castor cups and mug castors. The couch has been newly upholstered in a top quality hardwearing wool-based chenille structured fabric, with a foliate pattern, in red and beige colours, complete with new matching braiding. The sofa retains its original horsehair filled sprung seat and includes two bolster cushions at each end. The seat frame has been re-webbed in the traditional manner. Therefore the seat is extremely comfortable to sit on, without sinking into it. The couch is solid in joint and ready to use.
This item would look great in the living room, dining room or hallway of any large house. This item would compliment any home so don’t miss out your chance to own a lovely unique piece of furniture.
The couch features a rich mid brown mahogany colour. As it boasts the original polish, it has a fantastic colour and patination this can only be achieved through age and years of care and cleaning it has received.
