Description:
This is a fine quality antique English William IV solid rosewood Canterbury, circa 1840, in excellent original condition. What makes this Canterbury unusual and more sought after, is that it is made of solid rosewood (rosewood was usually only used as a veneer only as it was a very expensive timber). The Canterbury boasts four elegant shaped open partitions as dividers, which makes it ideal use for a modern day magazine or paper rack. Turned horizontal spindles connect each partition. The front panel boasts a stunning open fretwork panel. Below, a shaped hidden drawer opens to reveal additional storage space. The drawer is hand dovetailed with mahogany lined. The Canterbury is raised on its original cabriole feet, which incorporate brass castors. The Canterbury reflects a flamboyant, extravagant and distinctive style, typical of the William IV period; it has been constructed from the finest solid rosewood timbers.
The Canterbury features a gorgeous rich brown mahogany colour. As it boasts the original polish, it has a fantastic colour and patination; this can only be achieved through age and years of care and cleaning it has received.
This item would look great in the living room, hallway or bedroom of any house. This item would compliment any home, so don’t miss out on your chance to own a lovely piece of furniture.
