This is a very good quality rectangular shaped antique French carved upholstered tapestry stool, circa 1880, constructed of beech with an ebonised polish finish. A stool of this quality and size would most likely have been used in a French country house. It is unusual to see a stool with its original needlepoint tapestry upholstery. The tapestry depicts a bird flanked by an elegant colourful floral scene. The seat is firmly sprung and is comfortable to sit on. The original brass studded braiding holds the upholstery in place. The stool sits on elegant turned and carved floral legs. The design of the stool legs and stretchers are mirror matches on either side. The front and rear of the stool features an elegant double carved scroll stretcher. Connecting turned stretchers secure the front and back legs for added stability.
This is a top quality stool, which is very functional as it consumes very little space. It is rare to see stools, which are constructed of ebonized beech; it makes this stool quite rare.
This stool features a rich dark ebonised finish. As it boasts the original polish, it has a fantastic colour and patination; this can only be achieved through age and years of care and cleaning it has received.
This item would look superb in a variety of rooms from the bedroom, living room, dining or music room. This item would certainly grace any home and is a great investment as it is extremely functional. So don’t miss out your chance to own a lovely piece of furniture.
