This is an attractive and fine quality antique French provincial oak side table from the 3rd Republic period, circa 1880, in excellent original condition. This table would have been used in a country property in France. The table features a beautiful oak boarded top with a lovely grain configuration, secured by a mitered frame, finished with a round thumb moulded edge. Below, there is a single working drawer, which features the original brass key escutcheon and working drawer lock (with key). Please note, the drawer was not designed to have knobs or handles; this is classic French design. The key was designed to act as the drawer knob, as well as locking the drawer. The drawer, which is lined in chestnut, features an unusual but useful compartmentalised interior. Below the drawer sits an elegant breakfront reeded moulding, which is present around the whole of the frieze. Four elegant barley twist legs support the table, with a connecting barley twist stretcher for additional support.
This table boasts a rich golden oak colour. As its boasts the original polish, it has a fantastic colour and patination; this can only be achieved through age and years of care and cleaning it has received.
This item would look superb in a variety of rooms, specifically the living room or the hallway. This item would certainly grace any home and is a great investment, as it’s an extremely functional item. So don’t miss out your chance to own a lovely piece of furniture.
