Description:
Here is an example of a good quality antique English Victorian oak joined high dresser base and rack, displaying a good mellow colour, circa 1880, in original condition. Designed to reflect the Georgian period, this dresser has been constructed from earlier timbers, which is why the patination and mellow colour is superior to other Victorian dressers in the marketplace of a similar age.
The dresser boasts narrow proportions, therefore would fit in most kitchens or hallways. The dresser features a moulded cornice above an elegantly scalloped frieze, with an open rack, flanked by two large cupboards. The cupboard features an internal shaped shelf and the moulded cupboard doors retain their original working locks and key. Below each cupboard, sit a small drawer, ideal for storing keys and small possessions. The two graduating shelves, each with plate beads (to stop plates sliding forward) can support all manner of plate sizes on all levels. The base has been built using the traditional peg construction method. It incorporates a two-plank top with two drawers below, flanked by decorative bobbin mouldings to the frame. The drawers are constructed with oak drawer linings, including oak drawer bottoms, constructed with butt joints and retain their original working locks and key. The drawer fronts feature simple but elegant mouldings, with cushion fronts; they also boast their original brass knobs with shaped brass back plates. Further below, the base displays a decorative shaped apron. The base stands on three elegant ring turned legs to the front and block legs to the rear, secured by connecting stretchers. The dresser dismantles into two sections for easy transport and access into the house.
As the dresser features its original polish, it boasts a lovely mellow golden oak colour, which has been created from the years of care and cleaning it has received.
This dresser is a sought after design, having narrow proportions, which makes it an excellent practical furnishing piece.
This dresser is an excellent investment and would look superb in a variety of rooms from the kitchen, hall way or the living room. This dresser base would certainly grace any home. So don’t miss out your chance to own a lovely piece of furniture.
