This is a very good quality mid to late 17th Century (period Charles II) Home Counties oak coffer with good proportions believed to have originated from Oxfordshire. The coffer features double triangular motifs on the front panel. The top features two square insert panels and reeded edges. The sides are panelled and the lid is attached with its original iron loop hinges. The coffer features original hand and peg construction. There is a working lock and key. The back of the coffer features a rough hewn panelled back. Inside the coffer there is the original candle box on the left hand side. The coffer stands on its original styles and features a rich deep colour / patination. The coffer is ideal as a storage box in a bedroom in front of a bed.
