Description:
This is a fine quality pair of antique Victorian burr walnut bedside chests / cabinets, circa 1880, in good condition. They are pedestals from a Victorian dressing table, which have been adapted into bedside chests some time ago. Each bedside chest boasts elegant thumb moulded round cornered tops; this design is also reflected in the plinths. The bedsides each have four graduated working drawers, featuring burr walnut fronts and their original working brass lever locks (with key). The drawers are constructed with fine hand-dovetailed joints; mahogany drawer linings and the original brass drop fret work handles. The drawer linings even boast quarter beading to the frames; this is a true sign of quality. The bedsides stand on their original top quality rounded walnut plinths. The chests are constructed of top quality timbers imported from the colonies during the Victorian period. The quality is reflected in the weight of these bedsides; they are heavy to lift!
The bedsides feature a rich brown honey colour. They have a fantastic colour and patination; this can only be achieved through age and years of care and cleaning it has received.
These chests would look superb in a variety of rooms from the living room to the bedroom. These chests would certainly grace any home and are a great investment as they are extremely functional. So don’t miss out on your chance to own a lovely piece of furniture.
Condition Report:
These Victorian bedside chests / cabinets are in good condition having been French polished in our workshop. They are pedestals from a Victorian dressing table, which have been adapted into bedside chests some time ago. Nominal old use marks to the tops, leading edges and inside the drawers, but nothing significant considering the age of the item. There are no cup marks to the tops of the bedsides. Please note, any colour variation to the tops of the bedsides is due to the natural variation in the grain configuration and patination; this is not a defect or marks to the polish – this is entirely natural. The bedsides each have four graduated working drawers, featuring burr walnut fronts and their original working brass lever locks (with key). The drawers are smooth running and close flush to the frame. All drawers retain their original mahogany knobs. These bedsides are constructed of top quality mahogany, giving a superb colour and patination. The quality is reflected in the weight of these bedsides; they are heavy to lift! They are solid in joint and ready to use.
