Description:
Here is a fine quality set of 6 period antique English Georgian Chippendale solid elm country dining chairs, circa 1780, boasting a stunning colour, in good original condition. The design is a vernacular (country) interpretation of an urban Chippendale dining chair. The chairs are constructed of solid elm and feature a shaped top rail, a high back, which incorporates a shaped vertical central vase, shaped splat, flanked by vertical rails. Constructed in the traditional manner of joined peg construction design, the chairs feature solid elm boarded seats, with stunning grain configuration. The seats are firm but comfortable. The chairs rest on straight legs to the front, with splayed block legs to the rear. Please note, this is a true set of chairs; they have not been matched together from smaller sets of similar chairs.
The chairs feature a stunning grain confirmation to the elm seats. As they boast the original polish, they have a lovely honey colour and patination; this can only be achieved through age and years of care and cleaning they have received.
The chairs would look superb in the dining or kitchen. They would certainly grace any home and are a great investment as they are extremely functional. So don’t miss out your chance to own a lovely piece of furniture.
Condition Report:
These dining chairs are in good original condition. Nominal old use marks to the leading edges, frames, legs and seats, but nothing significant considering the age of them. One of the chairs does show signs of period saw marks to the seat (see pictures), which if anything is a lovely quirk of these very old chairs! The chairs retain the original polish; therefore they boast a fantastic patination and mellow honey colour, which cannot be recreated if the chairs were re-polished. This is a true set from the day of their construction (they have not been matched together from smaller sets of similar chairs). The chairs are solid in joint; they do not wobble and they are ready to use.
