Here is a fine quality antique English Victorian mahogany newly upholstered chaise longue, circa 1850, in very good condition. The chaise features (when facing) a right-hand raised sweeping deep-buttoned upholstered arm. The moulded back frame, which is also deep-buttoned, sweeps down and terminates on the base of the sprung stuff-over seat. The chaise boasts a sweeping carved fascia to the front of the arm, with a reeded moulding to the rest of the frame. The chaise has been newly upholstered in top quality floral upholstery, which has a biscuit / oatmeal colour, interspersed with wine and cream silk floral embroidery and finished with piping. The underside of the chaise has been traditionally upholstered in hessian backing material. The chaise stands on its original baluster fluted baluster mahogany legs and boasts the original brass studded collars above the original porcelain castors. The up-swept arm and backrest are solid in joint.
This chaise features a rich dark brown mahogany colour. As it boasts the original polish it has a fantastic colour and patination; this can only be achieved through age and years of care and cleaning it has received. It is impossible to re-create this colour if it has been re-polished.
This item would look superb in a variety of rooms, especially the living room or bedroom. The item would certainly grace any home or office and is a great investment, as it is extremely functional.
