Description:
Here is an example of a fine quality antique English George III pine dresser, displaying a stunning colour and patination, circa 1780, in good original condition. The rack incorporates a moulded cornice above three railed shelves (which stop plates from sliding off), decorated with wide pine backboards (which is a sign of quality) and shaped sides. A fourth plate rail is present on top of the dresser base, allowing plates to be stored underneath the rack’s lowest shelf. The rack stands on shaped feet, allowing it to rest on top of the base and be secured to the base with screws.
The dresser base boasts a solid two-plank pine top, boasting a mellow colour. The base consists of a row of three working drawers, above two inset cupboard doors, which flank a central stack of dummy drawers. The drawer frames mimic cock beading design normally seen on furniture in the towns and cities and the sides incorporate inset panels. All three drawers boast the original brass teardrop handles. The central working drawer includes a working lock and key, with diamond shaped escutcheon, while the other working drawers feature dummy keyholes with escutcheons. The dummy drawers also feature teardrop handles, faux keyholes and diamond shape escutcheons. The drawers are constructed with butt joints and retain the original pine drawer linings and drawer bottoms. The cupboards doors have working locks and key, with brass foliate key escutcheons. The cupboards also incorporate a single shelf. The dresser stands on the original block feet incorporating decorative spandrels.
This dresser boasts its original polish and patination, displaying a rich dark brown pine colour, which has been created from 200 years of care and cleaning.
This dresser would look superb in a variety of rooms from the kitchen to the hallway or living room. This dresser base would certainly grace any home. So don’t miss out on your chance to own a lovely piece of furniture.
