Description:
Here is an example of a fine quality George III Regency oak pot board dresser base, boasting a lovely mellow colour, circa 1810, in good condition. Originating most likely from Carmarthenshire, Brecknockshire, Glamorganshire or Monmouthshire in mid/south Wales. The style and colour of this oak dresser was indicative to this area due to its challenging terrain, which was rich in mineral content. To the front of the dresser can be seen lovely medullary rays in the oak grain. The base boasts a single piece oak plank moulded top, with five working drawers below, with a three-drawer layout, including two smaller drawers below. The drawer fronts are decorated with cock beading and have been constructed with hand-dovetailed joints, using pine linings. The drawer fronts feature old replacement Regency brass oval handles and escutcheons. The central drawer retains its original lock, with a working key. Further below, is an elegant cock-beaded frieze incorporating an arched central section. The base rests on four baluster ring turned supports, which connect to a single piece open pot board lower below. The pot board retains its original plate bead and pine backboards. The dresser has been made using the traditional manner with a pegged construction.
The dresser features a superb mellow colour. It has a fantastic colour and patination; this can only be achieved through age and years of care and cleaning it has received (it cannot be recreated by re-polishing).
The dresser would look superb in any hallway, kitchen or dining room. This item would certainly grace any home and is a great investment as it is extremely functional. So don’t miss out on your chance to own a lovely piece of furniture.
