Description:
Here is a fine example of a superb quality antique Welsh George II oak sideboard dresser base and rack, originating from the Snowdonia / Conwy region, displaying a stunning colour and patination, circa 1740, in excellent condition. The dresser is constructed from solid oak and incorporates serpentine shaped side rails to the rack and top quality wide oak backboards (a sign of quality), with three grooved horizontal racks that can support plates. To the top of the rack there is a lovely straight protruding cornice, with a shaped apron below. The rack rests upon an enclosed dresser base, incorporating three working frieze drawers, with a column of faux central drawers below, flanked by two working arched fielded panel doors each side. The base exhibits top quality later brass swan neck handles & escutcheons. The brass door knobs appear to be original. Each door incorporates a steel working lock (with key). All drawers are oak lined, hand dovetailed, smooth running and close flush to the frame. The quality and weight of the drawer linings lead us to believe the dresser was constructed from bog oak, which was oak that was reclaimed from fallen oak trees in peat bogs, it produces a stunning deep rich dark brown colour, because of all the minerals the timber absorbed from the peat and soil. Interestingly, bog oak was commonly used to inlay fine decorative pieces, as an alternative to ebony. Bog oak is very dense wood and therefore this dresser is heavy to lift. The dresser stands on its block stiles, decorated with an outer shaped bracket plinth. This dresser boasts its original polish and patination, displaying a rich oxblood colour, which has been created from 200 years of care.
This dresser is an excellent investment and would look superb in a variety of rooms from the kitchen, hall way or the living room. This antique sideboard dresser base would certainly grace any home. So don’t miss out on your chance to own a lovely piece of furniture.

This style of dresser is highly sought after, decorative and functional items that would compliment any country kitchen or dining room. This particular dresser came from a farmhouse, near Conwy, where it had remained in the same family since it was made, until now. Condition Report:
The dresser is in excellent condition, considering its age. The base and rack are original to each other and are not a marriage.
