This is a superb quality Edwardian mahogany upholstered concave ottoman. This ottoman was built in Newcastle-under-Lyme (near Stoke on Trent), in England in 1910. The provenance and date label can be found on the inside of the frame behind the black internal lining. The ottoman has been freshly upholstered in in green two-ply wool and silk hand embroidered on pure cotton crewelwork. The ottoman features a working hinged lid. To the bottom of the ottoman, there is a mahogany moulded frieze. The ottoman stands on the original mahogany shaped but feet with the original mug castors.
This ottoman would be ideal for storing magazines music or clothes and it would look great in a variety of rooms from the living room or bedroom in front of the bed. It has a beautiful deep rich oak patina, which has been generated by the centuries of cleaning and care it has received.
Condition Report:
This ottoman is in excellent condition and is commensurate with its age. Nominal old use marks to the leading edges of the mahogany frame. It has been newly upholstered in crewelwork material on the outside and inside with black lining. The brass original hinges are in excellent working condition. As the fabric is new, it is clean and free from any marks, tears or dirt. The ottoman is completely original with the original bun feet and original mug castors. The interior is dry and clean. The item is free of woodworm, solid in joint and ready to use.
