This is a fine quality English George III solid oak chest on chest, circa 1760, in excellent original condition. Constructed during the earlier part of the George III period, it features a protruding moulded cornice above a two over three drawer design. The chest consists of two halves. The top chest is smaller than the base chest, which consists of three drawers. Lovely medullary rays in the oak grain are prominent to the drawer fronts. The drawers feature the original brass swan neck handles and brass escutcheons, with the original working lever locks and keys. Furthermore, the drawers are oak lined and hand dovetailed. The top section of the chest boasts elegant reeded chamfered corners, which terminate at the base of the intersection between the two chests, where a further horizontal reeded moulding separate the two chests. The sides of the chests are also constructed from solid oak. The chest also features its original pine backboards and whole of the chest stands on its original bracket feet. The top and bottom are completely original. This is an ideal item for the bedroom or landing for storing clothes.
The chest boasts a rich warm red and brown mahogany colour. As it boasts the original polish, it has a fantastic colour and patination; this can only be achieved through age and years of care and cleaning it has received.
