This is a superb quality antique George III Welsh oak housekeeper’s food cupboard, circa 1780 – 1800, which is ideal for either the kitchen or even in the bedroom for hanging clothes. The cupboard boasts a protruding canopy above the upper section with quarter columns to the corner. The upper section consists of two Arcadian fielded paneled doors with a working lock and key. Inside the cupboard there is a brass hanging rail with adjustable brass hooks on the rail along with brass pegs to the back wall of the inside of the cupboard. Below, the graduated drawers are pine lined and this is a typical feature of Welsh housekeeper cupboards. The whole frame is built using a peg construction method. All drawers in the base feature lovely brass swan neck handles with brass plate escutcheons and the two top drawers feature ivory keyhole escutcheons. The cupboard features the original pine backboards. The cupboard boasts inset oak sides. The base and top are an original match and not a marriage. The cupboard stands on shaped bracket feet. The cupboard boasts a stunning colour and patination. The cupboard has lovely proportions which makes it a sought after size. The cupboard dismantles into two sections for easy transport.

Condition Report:
This item is in excellent condition. The doors feature a working lock and key. The drawers below feature dummy / sham locks and are for appearance only. The oak sides and pine backboards are original. The brass handles are very old replacements. There has been a very old repair to the moulding on the base above the top left drawer a very long time ago (see photos). The colour of this cupboard is superb. Both parts of the cupboard are original to each other and are not a marriage. There has been some old restoration to the feet. Free of active worm-worm, solid in joint and ready to use.
