Ralph Johnson set up his business in 1860 as a cabinet maker and upholsterer operating from two premises in Warrington – one in Bridge Street and one in Rydale Street. His father had been a cabinet maker and Ralph quickly gained a reputation as a very high quality maker. His furnishings were bespoke made using the finest materials and he particularly worked in oak.
