Description:
Here is a superb quality antique English George III oak provincial bachelors chest of drawers, circa 1780, with small rare proportions, in excellent original condition. The chest is constructed with a twin-plank oak top with a thumb-moulded edge, which is echoed in the base and features solid oak sides. Comprising of a two-over-three graduated drawer design, the drawer fronts incorporate thumb moulded drawer fronts, retaining the original brass swan neck handles and fretwork escutcheons (which is also rare to see). The drawers also retain their original working lever locks (with working key). The chest is constructed of solid oak, with pine lined hand-dovetailed drawer linings; it also retains its original pine backboards. The drawers are in good working order; they are clean inside and close flush to the frame. The chest stands on its original bracket feet: it is of extremely good quality and is made from the best materials; thus, it is very heavy to lift!
The chest features a rich deep oxblood oak colour, with a wonderful grain configuration to the front and sides. As it boasts the original polish, it has a fantastic colour and patination; this can only be achieved through age and years of care and cleaning it has received.
This bachelors chest of drawers would look superb in a variety of rooms, especially the bedroom. This chest of drawers would certainly grace any home. So don’t miss out on your chance to own a lovely piece of furniture.
