Description:
This is a fine quality antique English George II style solid walnut occasional side table, of small proportions, circa 1970, in excellent original condition. Constructed in the style of the George II period, (which dates between 1727 – 1760), the table, which is of a rectangular design, is constructed with a moulded two-plank top, above a single hand-dovetailed oak lined drawer. The drawer front is decorated with a cock-beading and retains its original George II style brass swan neck handles and shaped escutcheons. The drawer also retains its original working lock, with working key. Below is a shaped frieze and the table features shaped sides, too. The table is raised on ring turned baluster legs, united at the base by a pot board. The pot-board shelf is moulded and also acts as a sturdy stretcher between the four legs, which terminate on block feet. The table has been handmade using traditional joined and pegged construction.
The table features a rich warm brown colour. It has a fantastic colour, depth and patination; this can only be achieved through age and years of care and cleaning it has received.
This table would look superb in a variety of rooms from the hallway, living room or even in the bedroom, as a bedside table. It would certainly grace any home and is a great investment, as it is extremely functional. So, don’t miss out on your chance to own a lovely piece of furniture.
