Description:
This is a good quality near-pair of vintage English Queen Anne style flame mahogany / burr walnut chests of drawers, with equal proportions, circa 1950, in excellent original condition. The chests boast stunning veneers to the tops and drawer fronts, with solid mahogany to the sides of one and walnut sides to the other, both with a lovely grain configuration and colour. The chests comprise moulded cross-banded tops above a bank of five drawers in two-over-three configuration. The drawers feature the original brass swan neck handles and shaped brass escutcheons as well as retaining their original working locks and a working key per chest. Furthermore, the drawers are mahogany lined, quarter beaded, hand dovetailed and boast mahogany-crossbanded cock beaded drawer fronts. The base of the chests displays a lovely shaped apron. The whole piece is also designed with smaller proportions, so it is likely to fit in more rooms. The chests also feature their original backboards and stand on their original shell carved cabriole legs. They are ideal for the bedroom or landing for storing clothes.
The chests boast a rich brown flame mahogany and burr walnut colours. As they boast the original polish, they have a fantastic colour and patination; this can only be achieved through age and years of care and cleaning they have received.
These vintage chests of drawers would look superb in a variety of rooms from bedroom to the landing; they are very useful as there are so many drawers for storage. They would certainly grace any home. So, don’t miss out on your chance to own a lovely piece of furniture.
Condition Report:
The chests are in excellent condition. The chests have been traditionally French polished by hand in our workshop, to a professional standard. The chests therefore boast a fantastic colour to the flame mahogany and burr walnut. Nominal old use marks to the leading edges and inside of drawers but nothing significant considering the age of the them. All drawers feature the original brass swan neck handles, escutcheons and close flush to the frame. The chest retains their original working brass lever locks with key. The chests also stand on their original cabriole legs and retain their original backboards. They are solid in joint, do not wobble and are ready to be used.
