Description:
This is a superb quality pair of Edwardian marquetry inlaid rosewood salon armchairs, circa 1900, which have been newly upholstered, and are in good condition. The armchairs boast satinwood floral string inlay to the arms and frames and a padded scroll backrest and down swept padded arms terminating on carved floral knuckles. The frames are decorated with stunning marquetry inlaid carved panels, depicting inlaid urns with crossed torches, flanked by elaborate foliate fretwork, interspersed between rows of fine mahogany spindles. Satinwood string inlay adorns the whole frame and further marquetry floral work is visible at the foot of the arms. The armchairs stand on pretty ring turned feet and they boast the original mug castors. The back feet are splayed, which is a sign of good quality.
The armchairs feature a mellow rosewood colour to the frame. As they boast the original polish, they have a fantastic mellow colour and patination; this can only be achieved through age and the years of care and cleaning they have received. It is impossible to recreate this colour if it has been re-polished.
The armchairs would look superb in a variety of rooms, from the living room or bedroom. They would certainly grace any home and are a great investment, as they are extremely functional. So don’t miss out on your chance to own a lovely piece of furniture.

Condition Report:
These armchairs are in good condition. The frame, back and legs of the armchairs are completely original. Nominal old use marks to the rosewood frame, but nothing significant, considering the age of this item. Importantly, the back rail and arms are firm and there is no play in the joints. The armchairs have been newly upholstered in a beautiful pale gold & ivory structured silk brocade, and finished with ivory braiding. The upholstery and braiding is therefore clean and free of marks, dirt or tears. The springs in the seat are firm but they are comfortable to sit on. The lets retain their original brass mug castors. The armchairs are solid in joint and ready to use.
