Description:
Here is a fine quality antique English Edwardian rosewood upholstered rectangular duet stool, circa 1910, made by the renowned furniture makers, James Schoolbred & Co. of London, which has been newly upholstered and is in excellent condition. The item boasts satinwood floral marquetry to the front and rear, as well as flower head inlay to the carrying handles and string inlay overall. The stool has been newly upholstered in top quality floral pattern pale gold silk chenille material, finished with matching braiding. The seat itself is firm, which means that you won’t sink into the upholstery, but at the same time, it is very comfortable to sit on. The hinged seat lifts open to reveal an internal storage compartment ideal for the storage of sheet music, if the item is used as a piano stool. The seat lid will remain open until you close the solid brass-folding hinge. The compartment roof retains the original figured mahogany panels to the inside of the lid, as well as the original mahogany base. Either side of the seat is a ring turned carrying handle on scroll-shaped supports. The stool is raised on four elegant tapering legs, terminating on spade feet.
This stool features a rich brown finish. It has a fantastic original colour and patination this can only be achieved through age and years of care and cleaning it has received.
