Description:
This is a fine quality antique English Georgian oak corner cupboard, incorporating mahogany and satinwood inlaid and of superior design, designed to be wall hung, circa 1800, in excellent original condition. The Georgian oak corner cupboard comprises a moulded protruding cornice decorated with dentil work, with mahogany banding below decorated with diamond shape satinwood string inlay, incorporating a central shell inlaid motif, flanked by ebony string inlay. The two boarded doors below are decorated with delightful oak beading, featuring inverted quarter circles in the corners. Each of the quadrants are adorned with satinwood inlaid shell motifs, on a background of stunning oak quarter sawn panels, which boast lovely medullary rays. The door bords are edged with mahogany banding and satinwood and ebony string inlay. The doors retain their original brass butt hinges and brass shaped key escutcheon. The right-hand door features a brass working lock, with working key. On the inside of the left-hand door is a sliding brass bolt, to secure the door. The doors open to reveal three shaped shelves, useful for storing drinks glasses. Three delightful drawers can be found below, a larger central drawer, with original working lock and key, flanked by two smaller drawers. The drawers are constructed with fine hand dovetailed joints and retain the original pine linings. All drawers are embellished with mahogany cross-banding and satinwood string inlay and the original turned knobs. The corner cupboard retains its original solid pine backboards. There are two sturdy metal brackets on the back to enable the cupboard to be screwed to the wall. The cupboard terminates on its original moulded plinth.

Nominal old use marks to the leading edges but nothing significant considering the age of the item. All satinwood, ebony and motif inlay detail are original and in excellent condition. The doors retain its original brass butt hinges, original brass escutcheon plates and closes flush to the frame. There is a working brass lever door lock (with key). The Georgian oak corner cupboard. The corner cupboard has been traditionally wax-polished by hand in our workshop; therefore, the colour and patination are of an excellent standard. The item is solid in joint and ready to use.
