Description:
This is a fine quality pair of English Georgian style figured walnut bedside chests, made by the respected English reproduction furniture company, Reprodux – Bevan Funnell Ltd., circa 1970, in excellent original condition. The bedsides mimic the typical design of a Georgian tallboy / chest on chest but on a smaller scale. Boasting lovely figured walnut veneer top with cross banded perimeters, the bedsides feature a protruding moulded top, below which are two sections of drawers, divided into a narrower top section and a wider bottom section. The top section displays reeded, chamfered corners and houses 5 of the 8 drawers, in a two-over-three design. The base section features a moulded edge at the top and bottom, housing the rest of the drawers in a two-over-one configuration. All 8 drawers boast moulded drawer fronts and retain their original circular brass handles and escutcheons. One of the drawers displays the Reprodux logo. The drawers are mahogany lined and constructed with dovetail joints. The bedsides stand on classic Georgian style bracket feet. The bedsides are single-piece items, are solid in joint and ready to use.
The bedsides boast a mellow brown walnut colour. As they boast the original polish, they have a fantastic colour and patination; this can only be achieved through age and years of care and cleaning they have received.
The bedsides would look superb in a variety of rooms from, especially the bedroom; they would certainly grace any home and are a great investment, as they are so practical. So, don’t miss out on your chance to own a lovely piece of furniture.
Provenance:
Bevan Funnell is a famous UK maker of high-quality reproduction and replica furniture. They produced branded furniture under the Reprodux brand name. The company was established in 1945, immediately after the Second World War, and was winner of the Queens award for industry in 1967 and 1970. They were the first furniture manufacturer to win this award and are still the only company of any description to have won the award twice. This is a testament to the quality of their furniture. They continue to make furniture under the Reprodux brand name today and it is widely regarded as a sign of quality.
Condition Report:
The bedsides are in excellent original condition. Nominal old use marks to the leading edges and inside of drawers but nothing significant considering the age of the item.
