This is a fine quality antique English William & Mary oak geometric moulded chest of drawers, circa 1690, with stunning colour, in good condition. The chest boasts a twin-plank primitive moulded top, with a simple carved frieze above four drawers. The drawer fronts are decorated with mitred geometric moulded panels, flanked by a pretty moulded frame; all of which is typical of this period. The two lower drawers feature the same geometric design, whereas the two central drawers incorporate different designs and the top-drawer design is similar to the lowest drawer. The drawers incorporate the original brass drop ring handles along with the original circular floral brass back plates. The drawer’s feature old replacement lever locks, possibly from Georgian period. There is a key that works all the locks. The drawers are chestnut lined and are primitively constructed with butt joints. The sides of the chest boast the original decorative inset panels, along with the original backboards. The chest terminates on an elegant moulded frieze and is raised on its original stiles (feet). The frame of the chest has been built using the traditional peg construction method.
The chests feature a dark rich brown oak colour. As it boasts the original polish, it has a fantastic colour and patination; this can only be achieved through age and years of care and cleaning they have received.
This item would look superb in a variety of rooms, from thehallway to the bedroom. This item would certainly grace any home. So don’t miss out on your chance to own a lovely piece of furniture.

Condition Report:
This chest is in good condition considering the age of the item. Nominal old use marks to the leading edges but nothing significant considering the age of the item. There are no watermarks, stains or burn marks to the top of the chest. There has been restoration to the front right corner of the top of the chest (see photos). The brass drop ring handles and escutcheons appear to be original. There are working locks to all drawers; these appear to be old replacements (possibly Georgian). There is also a working key. Surprisingly, the chest retains its original length stiles (feet). Chests of drawers of this age usually have replacement feet due to the period of time they have stood on damp floors. The sides and backboards on the chest are also original. Overall, this item is solid in joint (not loose or wobbly)and is ready to use.
