Description:
This is an unusual antique Flemish Gothic carved oak centre table, constructed in the Victorian period, circa 1870, with Green Man influence, displaying stunning carved detail, in excellent original condition. Originating from the Low Countries, possibly Belgium, the carved oak centre table comprises a twin-plank top with carved moulded frieze, with canted corners, above a scroll carved convex frieze, which features a single working drawer, retaining its original oak drawer linings. At each corner can be found a well-carved lion heads, holding copper rings in their mouth. Shaped corbels unite the frieze with the canted corners on both sides of the table. The carved oak centre table stands on two turned legs, featuring well carved bulbous leg supports, united by a carved bar stretcher. The centre table terminated on “dolphin” shaped legs. The carved detail is featured on all sides of the table, making this an ideal centre table, which should be allowed to be seen from all angles. The carved oak centre table is solid in joint and ready to use.
The carved oak centre table boasts a lovely rich oak colour. As it boasts the original polish, it has a fantastic colour and patination; this can only be achieved through age and years of care and cleaning it has received.

The table retains its original working drawer, with original drawer linings, and closes flush to the frame. All carvings are intact and in excellent condition. The lion heads retain their original copper rings, which is rare to see. The carved oak centre table has been cleaned and wax-polished by hand, to a professional standard in our workshop, therefore the colour and patination are stunning. As oak table boasts its original polish, it has a fantastic rich colour and patination. This table is well constructed, solid in joint and ready to use.
