Here is a fine quality and early antique George III mahogany Irish low dresser base, circa 1760, with attractive proportions, in good condition. The dresser measures 6ft 3⅜” wide and boasts a stunning rich mahogany colour and patination. It is of a primitive craftsmanship; it boasts a single piece oak plank top, which would have been taken from an exceptionally large oak tree. It is very rare to see dressers with single piece tops. The top features an elegant reverse moulding to the underside.
The dresser houses three large cock beaded hand-dovetailed drawers, which feature pine drawer linings. The drawer fronts feature their original brass swan neck handles. All three drawers feature a working lock and there is also a key. The dresser boasts a simple moulded frieze below the drawers. It stands on straight tapering legs, chamfered on the inside (a sign of quality). The dresser also features elegant raised panelled ends to the sides of base, and rough sawn pine boards to the rear. The dresser frame has been constructed in the traditional peg and joined construction method.
The dresser features a superb rich red-brown mahogany colour. As it boasts the original polish, it has a fantastic colour and patination; this can only be achieved through age and years of care and cleaning it has received (it cannot be recreated by re-polishing).
The dresser would look superb in any hallway, kitchen or dining room. This item would certainly grace any home and is a great investment as it is extremely functional. So don’t miss out your chance to own a lovely piece of furniture.
Dimensions:
Height = 82cm or 32¼” or 2ft 8¼”

Depth (Top) = 48.8cm or 19¼” or 1ft 7¼”
Condition Report:
This dresser is in good condition. Nominal old use marks to the top and leading edges but nothing significant considering the age of the item. The dresser boasts a single piece mahogany top, which would have been taken from an exceptionally large tree. Consequently, there is a shake to the timber on the back left hand side of the top of the dresser. However, it is very rare to see dressers with single piece tops and this does not detract from its value. The drawers feature their original brass swan neck handles and escutcheons. All three drawers feature working locks and there is a working key. As the dresser boasts the original polish, it has a fantastic rich mahogany colour and patination; this can only be achieved through age and years of care and cleaning it has received. The dresser is well constructed, solid in joint with no loose movements and is ready to be used.
