Here is a fine quality antique Georgian Gainsborough style mahogany and green leather office armchair, circa 1920, which has been newly upholstered, and is now in good condition. The design of this chair was inspired by the original Gainsborough armchair, which was originally made in England, during the Chippendale period, mid to late 18th century. The armchair has been newly upholstered in top quality full grain sage green leather, which has been finished with hand-tacked brass studs to the perimeter. The chair benefits from a comfortable high shaped back, which is padded and is secured by leather arms that are decorated with fine carved circular motifs, raised on splayed moulded supports. The armchair seat has been re-sprung; therefore seat is firm but comfortable; you do not sink into the seat. The underside of the seat features a traditional hessian backing. Elegantly shaped open fretwork spandrels, which connect the legs to the seat frame, can be seen under the seat. The armchair is raised on moulded square legs to the front, connected by an “H” stretcher for additional support, with splayed legs to the rear. The chair frame features a lovely rich brown mahogany colour.
This item would look superb in a variety of rooms in the home, especially the office or study as it is so comfortable. This item would certainly grace any home. So don’t miss out your chance to own a lovely piece of furniture.
